Hitting on core consumer needs while adding in a flash of ingenuity, the 2013 Dodge Dart is well-positioned to shatter the norm of the compact car segment. Or at least that's how auto enthusiasts felt after taking in the model's well-anticipated glory at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this month. After an extensive look through release videos and full vehicle details, Jaff D'Ambrosio has to say, we most definitely agree.
Based off the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the Dodge Dart has fans of the Italian car maker jazzed and auto buffs in general teeming with excitement. Despite sharing the Alfa Romeo widened chassis and a few other vehicle underpinnings however, the Dart appearance is all its own. For one, the model isn't a hatchback but a slightly longer and wider four-door sedan.
Buyers of the new Dodge compact model will have their choice of three revamped engines. Available for the SE, SXT and RALLYE is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that produces 160-horsepower and 148-lb./ft. of torque. Those looking to truly live up to the model's name can tear through the streets in the R/T variant with a 2.4-liter I-4 that spits out 184-hp and 171-lb./ft. of torque. Dodge has also given Dart consumers the option to turbocharge their driving experience with a 1.4-liter MultiAir turbo that gets 160-hp and has the potential to achieve 40-mpg when mated with a new 6-speed automatic transmission.
Slated to go on sale in Q2 of this year, the 2013 Dodge Dart holds high hopes for resurrecting its former nameplate and bringing new life to the compact segment.
